After four and a half years of work towards the holistic methodology for validating cyber-physical energy systems, the ERIGrid consortium summarised all the best practices in the white book ‚ÄúEuropean Guide to Power System Testing: The ERIGrid Holistic Approach for Evaluating Complex Smart Grid Configurations‚ÄĚ.

This book provides an overview of the ERIGrid validation methodology for cyber-physical energy systems (CPES), a holistic power system testing method. It introduces readers to corresponding simulation and laboratory-based tools, including co-simulation, real-time simulation, and hardware-in-the-loop, and provides selected test cases and validation examples.

Given its scope, the book is of interest to researchers, engineers, and laboratory personnel in the fields of power systems and smart grids, as well as undergraduate and graduate students studying related engineering topics.

With the ERIGrid project concluded in April 2020, the consortium ensures consistent follow-up on R&D outcomes and further exploitation of results through the successor project ERIGrid 2.0. Tackling the research for an adoption of the validation approach for broader power and energy systems topics, ERIGrid 2.0 not only builds on the results of the precursor project but also extends the developed testing and validation concepts and tools, with special focus on research infrastructure integration and automation for long-term sustainability. With its focus on not just electric power systems but the entire smart energy system and the provision of free physical and virtual access to the laboratories, ERIGrid 2.0 provides unparalleled opportunities for research and development in the smart energy research community.
